You'll have the opportunity to hike in many beautiful side canyons with cascading waterfalls, natural swimming pools, and lush vegetation. We will visit interesting historical sites, study unique geological features, and marvel at the ever-changing vistas and panoramas that are revealed at each twist and turn of the river. In addition to the amazing scenery and educational aspects of the trip, there is plenty of whitewater excitement! We'll run more than 200 rapids during the course of the expedition, including some of the most famous "drops and falls" in the world, like Horn Creek, Hermit, Crystal and Lava Falls. Once owned by a notorious 19th-century gunfighter, this Old West-style resort on a secluded cattle ranch is 10 miles from the rim of the Grand Canyon, 2 hours from Las Vegas, and 35 miles from Route 93. Featuring cowboy-themed decor such as wagon wheels and saddles, the custom-built pine cabins sleep 2 to 5 guests, and have porches, fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, and en suite bathrooms with showers or antique claw-foot tubs. Some cabins add loft bedrooms. Linens are provided. The Ranch also offers Glamping Tents, a fusion of glamour and camping, for those who want to experience camping without the hassles. The tents are fully furnished in western style decor. The Ranch also offers a Cowboy Campout for those who wish to saddle up a horse, and join the old tradition of the American cowboy on a guided overnight Campout. Nightly campfires offer live music. Watch the dramatic changes in light, color, and perspective as you descend the North Kaibab Trail a mile in altitude to the gorge of the mighty Colorado River. Then test your endurance as you cross the river and trek up Bright Angel Trail to the South Rim. It will almost seem impossible when you look back across the canyon after hiking 25.5 miles in 10-15 hours.
