Almost 6 million people visit the Grand Canyon National Park every year, but a select few experience its full majesty by hiking rim-to-rim. Watch the dramatic changes in light, color, and perspective as you descend the North Kaibab Trail a mile in altitude to the gorge of the mighty Colorado River. Then test your endurance as you cross the river and trek up Bright Angel Trail to the South Rim. It will almost seem impossible when you look back across the canyon after hiking 25.5 miles in 10-15 hours.

The Grand Canyon includes numerous side canyons created by erosion. It is through only one of these canyons we are able to journey to the bottom. Because many layers of rock were exposed during this process, the walls of the canyon consist of countless shades of brown, yellow, red and gray. As the sun moves across the sky the light changes making the vista transform dramatically over the course of the day. The rock levels represent a cross-section of the geological history of the earth with the stone at the Inner Gorge of the river being some of the oldest on the planet with an age of nearly two billion years. Grand Canyon hosts 6 of the 7 climatic zones with only Tropical missing. Departing from Williams we will travel through 5 levels arriving at the base of the Inner Gorge, the Colorado River, and to what appears to be another world. Some of the plants of the Lower Sonoran Life Zone can only be found at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

At The Desert Hiking Company, our mission is simple: to guide our guests on intentional, reflective adventures that go beyond the typical hiking and backpacking experience. We believe that nature is a powerful healer, and through mindful exploration, we help you connect with the environment in a way that nurtures mental well-being and personal growth. What sets us apart from other tour companies is our focus on creating communal and reflective journeys. Our adventures are designed to help you set intentions, process individual experiences, and overcome the challenges that come with wilderness travel. While we guide you into some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes, we also encourage you to tap into the natural therapy of hiking and backpacking. The goal isn’t just to complete a trail or reach a destination—it’s about what you take away from the experience. We believe the lessons you learn, the wisdom you gain, and the resilience you develop in the wilderness can be integrated into your daily life, helping you navigate the “real world” with a renewed sense of strength, balance, and clarity. Join us on an adventure that’s about more than just the journey—it’s about connection, healing, and growth.

2 Person day hike. The South Kaibab Trail is a ridge trail that offers you those giant Grand Canyon 360 degree views you are expecting and dreaming of. With ooh-ah point being our first stop, you will stand at the edge of a huge drop off and overlook Cremation Canyon. We will then head on down to Cedar Ridge for a hearty snack. This is 1.5 miles from the trail-head and offers time to explore and get some great pictures of the wide-open canyon. We will continue hiking along the ridges to our next destination. Giant overlooks of the Tonto Platform and the canyons ability to make you feel like an ant, will be on this next section. Our next stop is Skeleton Point where we get our first view of the powerful Colorado River. You are able to get away from the trail here and enjoy lunch overlooking the Colorado River. This will be our turn around point unless you want to go further. Of course your guide will make the decision as we want you to have the most exciting day possible and remain safe.

You may think of Arizona as just a vast, dry desert, but every summer, monsoons bring much-needed rain to the region, nourishing the landscape and carving out the formations that make this state so picturesque. Dramatic conditions are the hallmark of great nature photography, and the stormy clouds and lightning that accompany the monsoons will ensure that the top half of your landscape photo is never dull! Join us on this four day tour as we "chase" the monsoons from the Grand Canyon to Petrified Forest.
