You have quite a a few choices when it comes to fly fishing for Snook. The best times of the day are the first two hours in the morning and the last two hours of daylight, That's not the only time you can catch Snook, but those are the two best times. There are days however when the tide can create some great Snook fishing in the middle of the day.

Fly Fishing Southwest Florida doesn't get any better than this. Especially if you're fishing for Snook and Tarpon. The occasional Trout and Redfish are known to grab a fly on the lights as well! "‹ For the uninitiated, home owners on the water will sometimes have submerged or overhead lights placed on their docks. The combination of bait attracting light and structure are snook magnets. It's not uncommon to see a few tarpon milling around as well especially since both are predominantly night time feeders so be ready to bow to the "silver king" (Can you find the fish in the background picture?!) "‹ The lights around Pine Island, Matlacha, and the Caloosahatchee River hold fish all year long, making this one of my favorite things to do on Spirit Fly Charters. So if you want to escape the cold winter winds, your kids, or the office here's your ticket.

I have a wide range when fly fishing the Florida Keys. My home base is the Big Pine Key area in the Lower Keys. I launch my skiff depending on the season and fish we are targeting from Islamorada all the way to Key West. I fish an area all the way from Cape Sable in Everglades National Park to the Marquesas Keys 25 miles West of Key West. If you are staying in a particular area I can arrange to fish near you if transportation or time is an issue.

Targeting redfish on fly or the lightest of tackle offers a very exciting and visual experience year-round. In the warmer minths (Apr.-Nov.) expect to sight-fish around the new or full moon for tailing redfish in the spartina grass. In the cooler months (Nov.-Mar.) once the season starts to change and the temp drops expect to see large schools of redfish. This is incredible as we could witness redfish with their backs exposed down the muddy banks and grassy edges, tailing fish at any moment, waking fish in hunt of their next meal or schools of 100 fish.

Early in the day we may have you casting streamers for Sea Trout on the flats. Then we often switch gears and have you casting shrimp or crab flies to the mangrove shorelines for Redfish and Snook. We could also move out into one of the local gulf passes and look for ladyfish or pompano. Most of our fly fishing charters start early to take advantage of the calm wind conditions that occur most mornings.

If you've never been fly fishing at night it might seem like it would be much harder then fly fishing during the day. In fact the opposite is true, because you're focused on a single target your casts tend to be more accurate and your focus is much better. There is nothing like seeing 20 or 30 Snook swimming in a tight circle and watch one turn and hit your fly.

Apalachicola and the surrounding waters are quickly becoming the Tarpon hot spot in Florida and Forgotten Coast Fly Company is the best place to book a charter. Whether you are chasing the Silver King, Redfish, or the numerous other species we have in our waters, our guides have the local knowledge to put you on the fish. All of our guides are local guides that live and fish these waters full time, not some transient guide that only guides here when the Tarpon are running.
