The Lodge has been our home since 1974. We built it by hand, one local log at a time, and we extend that personal treatment to the care of our clients and the surrounding countryside. Fresh baked sourdough breads, pastries and decadent desserts accompany wild Alaskan salmon at the dining table and our salad greens are grown on site. Main Lodge with flowers photo summer We cater specifically to each client – this means individual attention from your personal guide for the duration of your stay. We believe it takes Alaskans to show you Alaska and for over 40 years we have specialized in intimate groups, individual attention and warm hospitality. Our all-inclusive fly-out tours begin and end in Fairbanks so we can take care of the details.

Every bear viewing spot provides a distinctive perspective into the daily lives of these majestic creatures, showcasing the splendor of Kodiak Island. Therefore you are guaranteed an exclusive and unique experience as our group is small and the only one in the area, we will have the best possible bear viewing experience while minimizing the impact and disturbance to the bears. Bears can get accustomed to humans quickly and making the groups small we can manage and limit the contact bears have with outside influences. This means we truly see bears as they are meant to be, wild ! We take no more than eight clients at a time to one of our bear viewing locations throughout Karluk Lake, plus we have permission to explore some native land.

June through September is prime time for spotting the magnificent humpback whales of Alaska. After migrating south for the winter, humpback whales return to the cool, clean waters of Southeast Alaska to feed on krill, herring, sardines, and other small fish. Although adults can weigh up to 40 tons, they are frequently seen breeching (jumping out of the water), tail lobbing (raising their fluke in the air and then slapping it down), or swimming on their backs with their flippers in the air. Observing the incredible displays of this endangered species combined with the knowledge imparted by Captain Bonfils makes this an especially memorable Alaskan experience.
