As a professional Tennessee fly fishing guide, I spend my time teaching anglers the sport of fly fishing. My specialty is teaching the techniques required for success on the streams of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I also offer guided float or walk and wade trips on larger rivers for trout. The Caney Fork River is my favorite. In addition to the Caney, I also guide on the Clinch and Holston Rivers. Stalking large fish and fishing midges are my specialities on larger trout rivers. A float for smallmouth bass, musky or striped bass on the fly might be the ticket if you want a new challenge.

Fly fishing for smallmouth in East Tennessee has its perks with clear water that's mostly shallow making for exceptional topwater action and visual strikes. We are also at the bottom of their natural range, meaning our waters stay warmer, longer during the year - which extends their growing season. This makes our area well known for not only numbers, but trophy smallmouth. We have 6 rivers that we guide on which include the French Broad, Holston, Little River, Pigeon River and 2 others we'd rather not discuss for good reason. For most of our smallmouth floats we operate out of drift boats and rafts (depending on where we go) with the exception of power boats when the conditions call for it. The Smokies are home to wild rainbow, brook and brown trout streams flowing through the hills of Appalachia. These streams are where most of us cut our teeth on fly fishing here in East Tennessee and still holds a special place in our hearts. Rock hopping and fishing big dry flies pretty much sums up fishing the Smokies with most driving through the park without ever getting out of their car. Don't be them, let us show you the wild side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The GSMNP has Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout which are all wild fish and the season is open year round to anglers. We wade fish these streams and use light fly tackle because the average fish is 7 to 10 inches long and the waters are small. We also like to wear natural colors or even camo to stay hidden from these spooky fish. Along with fishing in the wild, especially the back country, don't be surprised to get an occasional visit from some of the wildlife. Most of the places we fish have very easy access, but some don't, so please let us know what kind of trip you are looking for.
