On this trip you will learn fundamental skills necessary for backcountry travel such as packing, backpack fitting, and leave no trace all while enjoying one of the most pristine and rugged wildernesses the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Mount Rainier National Park offers a one of a kind experience for backpackers that choose to take part in the adventure of this 4-day trip. As we hike through the Sunrise region of Mount Rainier National Park, we will witness the awesome powers of water, glaciers, volcanoes, and nature. This trip has it all: rivers, glaciers, meadows, wildlife and breathtaking views of Mount Rainier, and an amazing opportunity to learn and practice the do's and don'ts of backpacking. The scenery is so stunning you will probably start planning your next trip before you leave the park! /p> The hiking trail itself is of moderate difficulty overall with challenging uphill sections and some easier stretches that will allow you to keep your eyes fixed on the vistas, glaciers, and Mount Rainier. We plan to enjoy our time in the park at a comfortable pace, since half the fun of being outdoors is escaping our busy lives! There are some tough sections, however, so be prepared for a few challenges and many breath-taking rewards!

Mt. Rainier National Park is a special place during the summers when the snow begins to melt and sub-alpine meadows slowly come to life. Clouds might be above or below and wildflowers of all colors create an impressionist scene. Mt. Rainer itself, puts on show, revealing the snow capped ridges in soft light at the edge of the day. This mountain world has it all with reflecting lakes and waterfalls along the many trails to explore. This workshop is timed for blooming wildflowers and a moon cycle for photographing the Milky Way. As with any natural phenomenon, wildflower timing can vary from year to year. We'll follow the wildflowers wherever they are blooming, and have no shortage of compelling landscapes to photograph. We hope that you'll join us on this exciting new adventure!

Sam Hennessey has been a professional mountain guide for the last 11 years, and is an internationally certified IFMGA guide. His experience includes over twenty expeditions to the Alaska Range, six seasons in Antarctica, and numerous trips to the Himalaya. Closer to home, he works as an ice climbing guide in Hyalite Canyon and the South Fork of the Shoshone, as well as climbing and skiing in the Tetons and Beartooths. He is passionate about exploring the frozen waterfalls of the area, and has climbed hundreds of routes throughout the region, including dozens of first ascents throughout the region. Seth has been a professional mountain guide for the past 17 years and has led over 45 international expeditions around the world including 11 trips to Antarctica, 23 trips to the Alaska Range, and high altitude mountaineering trips to the Andes and Himalaya including two successful summits of Mount Everest.
