St. Elias Alpine Guides is the oldest continuously operating business in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Since 1978, we have guided thousands of adventures on successful trips through this very special part of the Alaskan wilderness; even before it became a National Park in 1980! Due to the vastness of this National Park (13.2 million acres!) we are still expertly exploring uncharted terrain and taking you along with us for these incredible journeys. Over the decades of guiding in the Alaskan wilderness, we have passed down our guiding expertise from one generation to the next. Starting with just a few of us who had the grit and knowledge to navigate this kind of country, there are now upwards of 45 expertly trained guides here at St. Elias Alpine Guides. Our love for this part of the world grows every year and we love sharing that passion with future guides and adventurers like you!

Located in the heart of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State, Mt. Olympus is surrounded by pristine old-growth forest, as well as many other glaciated peaks. The approach is a long one, but very rewarding as one becomes transfixed by the solitude of the forest filled with wildlife and natural beauty. The climbing route involves glaciated slopes and then a short rock scramble to the top, a hard-earned summit deep in the backcountry.

At 7,980 feet, Mount Olympus is the highest peak on the Olympic Peninsula. Set entirely within Olympic National Park, this trip offers a uniquely beautiful wilderness mountaineering experience. An 18-mile approach leads through old-growth rainforest in the Hoh River Valley to the toe of the Blue Glacier, part of the third largest glacial system in the Lower 48. We climb past spectacular ice falls and crevasses to an enjoyable pitch of moderate alpine rock climbing up the summit pyramid. From the top, we revel in our solitude with panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Range, Seattle and the Pacific Ocean.

Mount Olympus [Sunh-a-do] is the highest peak in the Olympic Mountains, an impressive glaciated massif crowned by three summits, positioned in the heart of the range. Guarded by a 17.5 mile approach that begins at only 600' above sea level, climbing Mount Olympus is a significant undertaking despite its modest 7980' summit elevation. Join us for 3 days of climbing to the summit of one of North America's most sought after peaks, Mount Baker. We take either the Easton Glacier or Coleman-Demming route with challenging route-finding through icefalls, seracs, and around large crevasses. Before summiting Mount Baker, you will learn fundamental skills necessary for safe glacier travel such as ice axe arrest, the use of crampons, and how to attach to a rope as a member of a rope team. The Miyar Adventures Mount Baker climb is a great introduction to mountaineering in Washington. Our professional guides will help navigate the route, home to mountain streams, blue glaciers, and vistas spanning to the Puget Sound. This amazing setting will be our classroom as we learn and practice the do's and don'ts of alpine travel. In preparation for the trip, guides will help each participant find the elusive balance between packing too much and leaving something critical behind. After this trip you will have the skills and experience necessary to participate in intermediate climbs such as a climb of Mt. Shuksan, more challenging routes on Mt. Baker, and climbs of other peaks in the Cascades and potentially overseas. Previous backpacking experience is highly recommended.

Located in the North Cascades, Mount Baker, aka Komo Kulshan-The White Watcher's fame stems from its accessible, enormous glaciers that climbers gravitate to learn on and challenge themselves whether on the gentle Easton Glacier to the knife edge North ridge. Approaching via the Schrieber's Meadow, climbers have ample opportunity to practice their glacier mountaineering skills from the comfort of the 6,000"² base camp. From here climbers take in the views of the Twin Sisters Range, Mount Rainier, Mt. Shuksan, and the crest of the North Cascades. The mountain's abundant alpine terrain make Baker an ideal location to learn snow and glacier travel skills and conditioning in preparation for other Rainier, Denali, Aconcagua, and other high altitude peaks.
