OKLAHOMA'S ONLY WILD MUSTANG ECOSANCTUARY DEDICATED TO TOURISM. Mowdy Ranch is one of four wild horse sanctuaries designated as a public off range pasture for the (BLM) Bureau of Land Management. Located 12 miles NE of Coalgate in the hills of southeastern Oklahoma, Mowdy Ranch offers daily horse tours and lodging facilities for wild horse enthusiasts. Mowdy Ranch comprises 4000 acres of wooded hills and open valleys in southeastern Oklahoma, the historical home of the legendary Choctaw ponies. The Choctaw ponies were famous for their toughness and endurance which was showcased in the film “Hidalgo”. Mowdy Ranch has dedicated 4000 acres of the ranch as a wild horse sanctuary and currently houses 350 wild horses on a long term basis. In addition to the adult mustangs who make the ranch their home, Mowdy Ranch is also an adoption site, housing 15-20 yearlings available for adoption to qualified people.

Michael Landrum grew up fishing Lake Caddo. His grandfather taught him to fish on this lake. In 2013, Michael began giving tours of this watery wonderland on his 24-ft pontoon boat. He thrives on sharing his passion for this area and loves helping make lifelong memories for those who share his tours. Tours vary according to guests’ interests. Left to my own impulses, I tend to focus on the history and legends of Lake Caddo and the surrounding area but am delighted when passengers indicate interest in wildlife, ecology, native Americans, local/regional attractions, or any subject related to Caddo Lake and Wetlands.
