Located 20 miles north of Helena, we are one of Montana’s not to miss destinations. When planning your Montana vacation of a lifetime do not miss the Gates of the Mountains. For over 125 years guests have been following in the path of Lewis and Clark exploring the “Gates of the Mountains”. Today the marina and boat tour is operated by the Gates of the Mountains Inc, whose goal is to protect, educate, and allow visitors to explore one of the last best places. Today the operation includes a Marina with 150 private docks, a public boat ramp, and tour boats that allow around 30,000 visitors a year to explore what Meriwether Lewis saw over 200 years before. We encourage you to come out and see the “Heart” of Montana. The river is surrounded by over 28,000 acres of roadless undeveloped wilderness filled with flora and fauna. Please enjoy your time on our site and we hope to see you soon. If you have any questions or want to learn more about the Gates, please call (406) 458-5241 and we will be happy to answer them.

Centrally located in Island Park, Eagle Ridge Ranch is a 2,000 acre western paradise. Rugged mountains, majestic pine trees, fragrant wildflowers, whispering meadows, peaceful streams, and lakes teeming with fish are all within minutes of the comfortable and private cabins that are available for rent year round rental. In addition to the breathtaking landscapes, you will see a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat, such as moose, elk, deer, antelope, waterfowl, hawks, and eagles. Eagle Ridge Ranch is an escape from the frenzy of city life, without sacrificing any conveniences or comforts. You can spend a day riding horses, eat a delicious prepared dutch oven meal, go fishing in one of the private ponds, and then relax in a private hot tub. If you would like to go hiking or photograph some of the wildlife, there are hundreds of secluded mountain trails within minutes of the cabins. Since Yellowstone National Park is just a short drive, you can also visit many of the park attractions (such as Old Faithful), and then come back to your luxury accommodations. In addition to the cabins, Eagle Ridge Ranch has designated camping areas that are great for families, business retreats, or scouting groups. While at the ranch, there are many other fun seasonal activities to choose from, such as a full 3D archery range, canoeing, swimming, and skeet shooting. You only have a limited amount of vacation time. Why not make it count? We operate under special use permits in the Caribou National Forest and we are an equal opportunity provider!

LODGING IN YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Yellowstone National Park was established as the world’s first national park on March 1, 1872 and encompasses 2.2 million acres. The park was established for many reasons including the abundance of wildlife and more geysers, hot springs, and geothermal features than anywhere else in the world. Just as the landscape and wildlife are part of the heritage of Yellowstone National Park, so are the lodges, campgrounds, tours, and services operated by Yellowstone National Park Lodges. In the summer, Yellowstone National Park Lodges operates 9 lodges, 4 campgrounds, and 1 RV park. We also offer summer packages and guided land, water, and horseback tours. In the winter, 2 lodges are open, and we offer winter transportation, packages, and tours. We are ready to welcome you and help create meaningful experiences and once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

Even if you have never been in a kayak before, you will surely want to do it again after this trip. We meet at the Lewis lake Campground Boat Ramp at 9am on the first day. After a brief introduction of equipment and paddling techniques, your guide will lead you on an easy paddle to a remote area in the Yellowstone backcountry. We start by paddling around the shoreline of Lewis Lake to reach the river channel connecting the two lakes. Once inside the channel, we'll stop for lunch, then paddle and hike/wade upstream towing our kayaks until we reach the shore of Shoshone lake. The channel is about 2 miles long, and the upper mile has just enough current to make it impossible to paddle against it, but it is only ankle to knee deep. Once there we paddle another half mile to our campsite, arriving in plenty of time to set up camp then relax and enjoy before dinner. On the second day, after a leisurely breakfast then breaking camp, we can paddle and float down the entire channel back to Lewis lake, have lunch then paddle back to our vehicles, arriving around 4pm.

After taking a shuttle across the main body of the lake, we'll paddle 2 - 10 miles each day, depending on the groups' desires, tent camp under the stars on sandy beaches, and dine on gourmet meals cooked over the campfire. Native cutthroat trout thrive in the 400+ foot deep Yellowstone Lake, which makes for excellent fishing. Fish right from your kayak or choose one of the feeder creeks including the headwaters of the Yellowstone River. Each day we'll go hiking in fields of wildflowers or up nearby peaks. We'll do lots of exploring and wildlife watching, or just relaxing on the lake's shores. Yellowstone Lake has an ecosystem all its own and sea kayaking along its shoreline is the best way to experience it!
