Michael Landrum grew up fishing Lake Caddo. His grandfather taught him to fish on this lake. In 2013, Michael began giving tours of this watery wonderland on his 24-ft pontoon boat. He thrives on sharing his passion for this area and loves helping make lifelong memories for those who share his tours. Tours vary according to guests’ interests. Left to my own impulses, I tend to focus on the history and legends of Lake Caddo and the surrounding area but am delighted when passengers indicate interest in wildlife, ecology, native Americans, local/regional attractions, or any subject related to Caddo Lake and Wetlands.

Black Bear Viewing at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary Many years ago, a humble Minnesota logger made a decision that would greatly affect black bears and the attitudes people have towards this often-misunderstood animal. It was then that Vince Shute chose to stop shooting the bears that broke into his cabins. He tried a more peaceful approach and the strategy worked – no more break-ins. Vince claimed, “the bears aren’t mean, just hungry!” This began Vince’s long and celebrated life with black bears in a tiny corner of the north woods near Orr, Minnesota. Generations of black bears still visit his former homestead, now designated as The Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary. The American Bear Association, a non-profit organization, was formed to manage the sanctuary in order to promote a better understanding of the black bear through education, observation and experience. Vince Shute’s final wish has become a reality – peaceful coexistence between humans and bears. All of the bears are free-roaming and they come and go at will through clover meadows, cool cedar swamps and pine forest.

Need a guide near Asheville to help you find the elk in Great Smoky Mountains National Park? We're offering just that! We currently have a 100% success rate in finding the elk! For our private Half-Day Elk Viewing Photo Tour, we've put together a trip that takes you about an hour west of Asheville out to Great Smoky Mountain National Park to see the elk herds in the scenic valley near the Tennessee border. Everyone seems to really love this tour. Our Elk Photo Tours are very adventurous and sure to please. This tour focuses less on learning photography and more on capturing the elk but if you're interested in learning, we'll teach some along the way! We know when and where to find the elk, we can get you (safely) close to the animals, and we'll make sure you have the right settings to capture the elk!

We are offering an opportunity to experience the magic of the Blue Ghost Fireflies! We have discovered a colony of these wonderful flickering critters deep in a private forest, near Asheville but far from other people. These are not the same fireflies that you see flying above your lawn in the summer. These are dim, mysterious creatures that move slowly just above the forest floor. They are only found in certain parts of remote forests in North Carolina.
