Watch the dramatic changes in light, color, and perspective as you descend the North Kaibab Trail a mile in altitude to the gorge of the mighty Colorado River. Then test your endurance as you cross the river and trek up Bright Angel Trail to the South Rim. It will almost seem impossible when you look back across the canyon after hiking 25.5 miles in 10-15 hours.

The Grand Canyon includes numerous side canyons created by erosion. It is through only one of these canyons we are able to journey to the bottom. Because many layers of rock were exposed during this process, the walls of the canyon consist of countless shades of brown, yellow, red and gray. As the sun moves across the sky the light changes making the vista transform dramatically over the course of the day. The rock levels represent a cross-section of the geological history of the earth with the stone at the Inner Gorge of the river being some of the oldest on the planet with an age of nearly two billion years. Grand Canyon hosts 6 of the 7 climatic zones with only Tropical missing. Departing from Williams we will travel through 5 levels arriving at the base of the Inner Gorge, the Colorado River, and to what appears to be another world. Some of the plants of the Lower Sonoran Life Zone can only be found at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

You'll have the opportunity to hike in many beautiful side canyons with cascading waterfalls, natural swimming pools, and lush vegetation. We will visit interesting historical sites, study unique geological features, and marvel at the ever-changing vistas and panoramas that are revealed at each twist and turn of the river. In addition to the amazing scenery and educational aspects of the trip, there is plenty of whitewater excitement! We'll run more than 200 rapids during the course of the expedition, including some of the most famous "drops and falls" in the world, like Horn Creek, Hermit, Crystal and Lava Falls.
