Throughout the forest are brackish "lakes" whose waters are a mix of "sweet" freshwater and saltwater. This is part of what makes the Everglades so special. These lakes, surrounded by mangroves, are refuges and nursery grounds for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators, otters and a gamut of fishes. This is where the Everglades transition from freshwater to saltwater and is a wonderful place to experience.

Our main focus is big game fishing in the Keys. Some of the fish we target on our guided trips are tuna, wahoo, marlin, swordfish, sailfish, cobia, grouper, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, red snapper, mangrove snapper, tile fish, permit, barracuda and the dolphin fish also known as mahi mahi or dorado. The fishing can take place in the crystal clear waters for Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit or in the Everglades National Park for Red Fish, Snook, Trout, etc depending on the angler’s preference or experience. Captain Steve is fully equipped with fly and spinning gear. Trips can be geared toward family oriented rod bending action or the experienced fly fisherman. Steve is patient with children as he has two young ones of his own. Steve fishes out of a Maverick Mirage HPX that has a wonderful ride and can go very shallow for skinny water sight fishing.

Backcountry Fishing in Everglades National Park and the Flats of the Florida Keys The flats and channels off of Islamorada, Florida Keys provide some of the best Tarpon and Bonefish waters in the world. Tarpon migrate through the main channels and bridges as well as in Florida Bay. Tarpon fishing can be done on evening trips as well as during the day. An adventure into the Everglades National Park is beautiful as well as exciting. The “backcountry” as it’s called, is made up of hundreds of small islands, shallow flats and bays. Fishing can be fantastic on the flats and grass beds for a variety of fish such as Spotted Sea Trout, Redfish, Jack Crevalle, Snapper, Ladyfish and Sharks. In the deep cuts up against the islands, the Snook and Snapper cruise through the mangrove roots awaiting the perfect presentation of your bucktail jig to hit the water.
