Gringo Charters – Islamorada Fishing Charters As a child Capt. Carlos spent every summer fishing, diving and exploring in the Florida Keys. These early days laid the groundwork for a life on the water. Capt. Carlos has been making a living fishing in the Upper Keys since 1991. He started out as a mate learning the ropes from the top captains in the area. In 1994 he obtained his captain’s license and began running large offshore fishing boats from both Key Largo and Islamorada. In 2008 he moved away from charter boats and focused on the niche of running a multitude of private boats for private clients from Ocean Reef to Marathon. During his free time he focused on exploring the backcountry and learned that he loved that side of the island just as much as the oceanside. In 2015 he decided to purchase a bay boat which allows the versatility to fish either ocean or bay side of the Key Largo and Islamorada areas. In addition to being an avid fisherman, Capt. Carlos is a husband and a father. So whether it’s a family adventure or a guys trip you’re planning, know that Capt. Carlos enjoys working with anglers of all ages and all levels of experience. Capt. Carlos really loves to catch fish, but never at the expense of your safety or your enjoyment.

Species we will target include: Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Redfish, Snook, Sea Trout, Snappers and Sharks. Whether you prefer fly fishing or gear fishing, or a combination of both I am able to cater to your needs. The areas fished are the oceanside and back country flats of Islamorada, Key Largo, and the Everglades National Park. The Florida Keys are famous for world class fishing, and the number of different angling opportunities presented to sportsmen. Whether fishing for snappers in the mangroves or poling the edge of a flat looking for tarpon, or in the shallow water hunting bonefish and redfish, I will do my best to provide you with a positive angling experience. Days will be set up to provide anglers with the best opportunity, taking into consideration the current conditions, the anglers desire, and their skill level.

Backcountry Fishing in Everglades National Park and the Flats of the Florida Keys The flats and channels off of Islamorada, Florida Keys provide some of the best Tarpon and Bonefish waters in the world. Tarpon migrate through the main channels and bridges as well as in Florida Bay. Tarpon fishing can be done on evening trips as well as during the day. An adventure into the Everglades National Park is beautiful as well as exciting. The “backcountry” as it’s called, is made up of hundreds of small islands, shallow flats and bays. Fishing can be fantastic on the flats and grass beds for a variety of fish such as Spotted Sea Trout, Redfish, Jack Crevalle, Snapper, Ladyfish and Sharks. In the deep cuts up against the islands, the Snook and Snapper cruise through the mangrove roots awaiting the perfect presentation of your bucktail jig to hit the water.
