The best and most consistent Tarpon fishing available is for our resident Tarpon. When you're out on a Fort Myers fly fishing charter with us you will be able to see and cast to actively feeding Tarpon the entire time you are fly fishing. I know of very few places in the world where you will be able to cast a fly to so many Tarpon. We specialize in getting that first Tarpon for all of our fly fishing clients.

This trip will be a combination of sight fishing and blind casting. Bent backs, top water, and weedless style flies are recommended with 8wt rods for trout and 9wt for snook & redfish.

I fish an area all the way from Cape Sable in Everglades National Park to the Marquesas Keys 25 miles West of Key West. We could also move out into one of the local gulf passes and look for ladyfish or pompano. Most of our fly fishing charters start early to take advantage of the calm wind conditions that occur most mornings.

Targeting redfish on fly or the lightest of tackle offers a very exciting and visual experience year-round. In the warmer minths (Apr.-Nov.) expect to sight-fish around the new or full moon for tailing redfish in the spartina grass. In the cooler months (Nov.-Mar.) once the season starts to change and the temp drops expect to see large schools of redfish. This is incredible as we could witness redfish with their backs exposed down the muddy banks and grassy edges, tailing fish at any moment, waking fish in hunt of their next meal or schools of 100 fish.

Fly Fishing Southwest Florida doesn't get any better than this. Especially if you're fishing for Snook and Tarpon. The occasional Trout and Redfish are known to grab a fly on the lights as well! "‹ For the uninitiated, home owners on the water will sometimes have submerged or overhead lights placed on their docks. The combination of bait attracting light and structure are snook magnets. It's not uncommon to see a few tarpon milling around as well especially since both are predominantly night time feeders so be ready to bow to the "silver king" (Can you find the fish in the background picture?!) "‹ The lights around Pine Island, Matlacha, and the Caloosahatchee River hold fish all year long, making this one of my favorite things to do on Spirit Fly Charters. So if you want to escape the cold winter winds, your kids, or the office here's your ticket.
