We combine great hikes, good people, the best accommodations in the area and lots of laughs with an examination of what natural silence is, why it's important, and what it feels like to engage with it. Olympic National Park is considered one of the last bastions of natural silence in the U.S.A. and the quietest place in North America. You'll follow in the footsteps of Roosevelt elk and black tail deer, discover tumbling waterfalls that feed into the crystalline Hoh River, explore wild beaches at low-tide, and decompress under canopies of moss-draped big leaf maples spreading out overhead. Get outside, slow down, tune in, and enjoy this magical place with us.

Mount Olympus [Sunh-a-do] is the highest peak in the Olympic Mountains, an impressive glaciated massif crowned by three summits, positioned in the heart of the range. Guarded by a 17.5 mile approach that begins at only 600' above sea level, climbing Mount Olympus is a significant undertaking despite its modest 7980' summit elevation. Summit day involves glacier travel, steep snow climbing, and finishes with a short pitch of rock on the summit block.

Olympic National Park offers up a multitude of beautiful landscapes indicative of the Pacific Northwest. During this photography workshop, we may visit the Hoh Rain Forest and its Hall of Mosses as well as the forests found in the Quinault region of the park. We will also photograph the rugged coastline and its awe-inspiring sea stacks which can be found at First, Second, and Third Beaches. Other coastal locations include Ruby and Rialto beaches. Around Lake Crescent, we will explore the inner forested areas in search of cascades and waterfalls. This photography workshop will take advantage of the best the northwest has to offer on Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

Olympic National Park is well known for having several different ecosystems to explore: subalpine forest, wildflower meadows, temperate rain-forest, and the rugged Pacific Shore. This twelve-hour tour allows you to sample each of these systems with the added advantage of having an experienced guide to answer any questions that may arise. Come explore tide pools along the coastal beaches, roam among old-growth forest, trek atop mountain ridges with breathtaking vistas and stand by glacier-birthed rivers and lakes. The tour begins on a leisurely ferry boat ride over the Puget Sound to the Olympic Peninsula. Our first stop will usually find us at Hurricane Ridge where you will hike to an incredible view of the valley below and the snow-capped mountains in the distance. We will move on to Crescent Lake, Marymere Falls, Sol Duc Valley, and time permitting, a sandy beach along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Hiking distance and duration of tour is customizable to your groups needs.

Immerse your senses in the otherworldly Hoh Rain Forest, a sea of brilliant green mosses and lichens hanging from trees hundreds of feet tall in one of the planet's wettest places, which also creates the perfect environment for one of the quietest places on earth. This magical landscape evades description, which is why people so often reach for fictional comparisons (e.g. FernGully, Avatar, Fangorn Forest from Lord of the Rings), but you really must experience it for yourself.

At 7,980 feet, Mount Olympus is the highest peak on the Olympic Peninsula. Set entirely within Olympic National Park, this trip offers a uniquely beautiful wilderness mountaineering experience. An 18-mile approach leads through old-growth rainforest in the Hoh River Valley to the toe of the Blue Glacier, part of the third largest glacial system in the Lower 48. We climb past spectacular ice falls and crevasses to an enjoyable pitch of moderate alpine rock climbing up the summit pyramid. From the top, we revel in our solitude with panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Range, Seattle and the Pacific Ocean.
