Phillip was introduced to fly fishing by a fellow Veteran who extended an invitation as Phillip was finishing his service in the Marines. This invitation to fish proved to be life changing for Phillip. In 2016, He attended Gallatin River Guide School in Bozeman, Montana to learn as much as he could about this amazing sport. Returning home to Virginia with the goal of sharing this love with others, and helping others find healing in this sport as he had found. Phillip continues to guide and volunteer with Veterans, and yearly makes a trip to Bozeman to offer his time to Warrior and Quiet Waters. Guided trips take place on a private two mile stretch of the Potomac River in Blue Grass, Virginia. This stretch is a healthy river with astounding bug life. The waters hold rainbow and brook trout ready to be caught. The terrain is perfect for the beginner learning, and has more technical areas for those experienced fly fishing anglers. Other area locations available by request.

Almost 30 years ago, we nestled in the heart of Charlottesville. The Albemarle Angler has always been more than a fly shop. It’s a gathering place, a trusted outfitter, and a launchpad for stories that start on quiet Virginia streams and end in faraway waters. For decades, we've helped all levels of outdoorsmen to find what they’re looking for – whether it’s the right fly, a hidden bend in the river, the perfect cast, a mountain peak, or the right outfit.

The Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding area offer endless opportunities for adventure. I can help you choose an adventure that is just right for you. Any time of year, there are fish to be caught and I can help you catch them. Whether you are an experienced angler or someone who has never picked up a rod, you'll have a great time. If you're unsure where you'd like to go, contact me and I can suggest an area depending on the time of year. I have a 16' Maravia raft with an oar frame for bigger water or waders for smaller streams and creeks. I can teach you how to cast, which flies to use and when, how to read the water, and most importantly, how to find the fish. This area offers a lot of great places to fish, drop me a line, and let's have an adventure!
