After departing the Ketchikan waterfront in a DeHavilland Beaver or Otter, you will fly over Salmon Falls Resort, historic Loring (established before Ketchikan), over beautiful Behm Canal and continue over the rugged Cleveland Peninsula. This is one of the most spectacular natural wilderness areas in this part of Alaska. After landing on serene Anan Bay, you will receive a personal briefing from a U.S. Forest Service Park Ranger. Your naturalist bear guide will escort you on a half-mile hike along a groomed trail bordering a creek, to a secure bear observatory overlooking a beautiful waterfall. Once on the viewing platform, you can look down on stunning rapids as the fast-flowing creek cascades towards the sea and the large numbers of salmon in the stream congregate to complete their spawning journey. Bears gather here to feed on the large run of pink salmon, as they head upstream to spawn. Bald eagles will be in abundance as they await the scraps left by the bears. You can view seals feeding on the bountiful harvest in the lagoon. Mink, marten and wolf also frequent the area. Ample time is provided to observe the wildlife activity in this forest ecosystem before the hike back to your awaiting aircraft. Interpretation by your pilot and guide will enhance this truly intimate natural experience, perfect for the nature lover and photographer.

When you arrive at the sanctuary, a naturalist guide will join you, bringing the rich forest to life as you walk along an improved trail. You'll be surrounded by magnificent stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar trees. And soon you'll be watching for wild bears in search of spawning salmon and ample berries. These are safe, protected raised boardwalks, and you can expect to have an intimate viewing experience. To reduce environmental impacts, only a limited number of groups have access to this private bear viewing area. Your guide will lead you along another boardwalk system perched over the grassy wetlands alongside Herring Creek. You'll now observe a rich run of spawning salmon and the bears and seals that come to fish for them, along with bald eagles and other birds that wait for scraps in the tidal estuary nearby.

After a narrated drive to Douglas Island you'll be surrounded with mountain views and pristine old growth forest. Once you've arrived at the lodge, you'll be greeted by friendly and knowledgeable guides who will outfit you with top of the line gear. We take fun seriously, so you'll have a safety briefing and optional practice zips before taking your "leap of faith" into the trees. As you make your way through 5 ziplines, with the longest zip being about 600 feet long, you and your guide will stop and land in fully enclosed treehouse platforms where you can take in the scenery or snap some pictures. Hear about living in Southeast Alaska and the forest flora and fauna you're seeing. Close to the end of your trip, you'll cross a suspension bridge over a rushing stream. Top off your tour by embracing your inner lumberjack and try your hand at Axe Throwing. At Herring Cove, an all-terrain custom 4í—4 Unimog will transport you up a steep rain forest hillside to the canopy chalet. Professionally trained guides will outfit you with the state-of-the-art safety equipment and provide a detailed orientation before you mount the first platform. Your rain forest canopy challenge features a 'flight' over eight zip-lines. Your guide will progressively ease you into the forest canopy along cables ranging from a short 100 feet up to 600 feet with platform as high as 100 feet above the ground. Eagles and bears are often seen from the platforms. Cross a hanging bridge that will lead you to our longest zip that breaks out into the canopy offering breathtaking views of the forest and salmon spawning creek below. Throughout this adventure, you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rain forest wildlife preserve. The final zip-line emerges from the rainforest and transports you over lush grassy wetlands to a viewing tower overlooking the Whitman Lake Fish Hatchery, 55 feet above the ground where you will rappel to the ground.

Here's a big feature of your trip: A bear guide, at your service. Frankly, when it comes to wildlife, we plan the perfect trip. An Alaska naturalist/bear guide will meet your plane, and you'll be driven by van about a mile to a trailhead. From there, you'll take a short and visually stunning hike along an improved trail that leads to a viewing platform overlooking rapids, as a fast flowing creek cascades towards the sea. You will find yourself - literally - in the middle of an Alaska forest ecosystem. This is where black bears gather to feed on runs of pink, Coho and Chum salmon, as they head upstream to spawn. Join us for a paddle in the Tongass National Forest. Your adventure starts with a van ride to the north end of Ketchikan to beautiful Clover Pass. You will be welcomed and led down to our waterfront facility and introduced to your tandem kayak and get a safety briefing from your guide. You'll quickly gain confidence as you paddle to Eagle Island. The protected waters of Clover Pass provide us with the opportunity to really enjoy the tranquil setting of the Tongass National Forest. Along the paddle you will learn about the natural and cultural history of the area while keeping a keen eye out for bald eagles and their nests, seals, jumping salmon, and - when the tide is right - sea stars.
