Canoeing in Colorado on the Gunnison River will spark your sense of adventure with opportunities for hiking and exploring, floating in your lifejacket and camping along the river's edge. During this Colorado canoe trip, you will be dwarfed by high walls of red sandstone and shale deposited during the age of the dinosaurs. These canyons in the Colorado Plateau are truly magnificent and not soon forgotten. Massive cottonwoods stand on many river bends supporting the huge nests of blue herons, hawks and eagles. You may hike into Dominguez Canyon, Colorado's newest designated Wilderness Area, one of the most beautiful stops on the river. Hiking into the canyon will reveal deep, cool swimming holes, waterfalls and many ancient Indian petroglyphs (rock art panels). This 3-day trip is 31 miles filled with beauty and adventure!

WHAT IS “THE NEXT EDDY”? An eddy is a feature in the river (No, Eddy doesn’t work here!). It is the current of water on the side of the river that is moving in the opposite direction of the main current. It is the calm spot on the side: the pocket, the pullover and wait for your friends spot, the grab another beer and have some lunch spot, the there’s got to be a fish in there spot. We are always moving towards that next eddy, in life and on the river. The Next Eddy is the destination. We are a full service fly shop and guide operation in downtown Salida, Colorado. What does full service shop mean? We can help you out in any aspect of fly fishing. We sell and rent the gear you need for a day on the river and we help you out with the gear you already have. We pride ourselves in having the friendliest guides and staff. There is a lot to learn when you are beginning to fly fish, and let’s be honest, throughout a lifetime of fly fishing! We want to help create a community of anglers. We don’t want anyone to feel intimidated for asking what we all had to learn at some point, so come in and ask! Meet our staff and our guides, you’ll most likely recognize them the next time you’re out on the river. We offer guided trips for all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned anglers. We offer walk and wade trips (from the bank) and float fishing as well. We are local and spend every bit of free time on the river. It is what we love and we’d love to help get you out there too!
