Cave Mt. Ranch offers a unique hunting experience. Although there is a high fence the deer are free ranging in the hunting area and as the deer are wild this offers a unique challenge for the hunter. We have permanent building blinds and hunters are allowed to use their own tree stands. These hunts are semi-guided and we will make every effort to put you in the best location to succeed. These are three day all inclusive hunts. We guarantee you the opportunity to take at least a 130 plus buck and have had several in 200 plus with the average buck taken being 170 plus.

Lily Pond's first gun season is black powder. There are no restrictions on rifle types so scopes and In-Lines are legal to use. Black Powder starts around the second week in October and lasts for 6 days. Lily Pond guides will situate hunters close to feed sites and travel routes, usually within 100 yards, and nearly all stand sites will be baited. The weather is usually warm, but mornings can be cool so bring gear for cool as well as warm temps.

We hunt some of the most productive areas in eastern North Carolina. We hunt swamps and creeks early season for Woodies and mallards. We work with local farmers and have large parcels of farm land for snow and canada hunting. The Pamlico Sound has historically been one of the most famous areas to hunt open water ducks. The Englehard and Gull Rock area of Hyde County provides a different hunt and offer chances of taking many species of waterfowl including Sea Ducks, Divers and Puddle ducks, along with swan and geese. It is located on the western side of the Pamlico Sound near Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge. This group of birds tend to fly back and fourth between the lake, sound and the many impoundments located in the area. It can provide good shooting most of the day even on a blue bird day. We often take five or six different species on any given day. Duck hunting is in the Engelhard area and Swan, Snow Goose and Resident Geese hunting is in the Elizabeth City area.

After the primitive weapon season has ended, it's time to bring out the big guns. Rifle season begins around the 3rd week in October and lasts until January 1st. Stand locations are set up around field edges among the oak groves, agricultural fields, swamps, clear cuts and logging trails, and most all stand sites are baited. Shots range from under 50 yards and as far as 500 yards. Bait barrels are positioned close enough to stands to insure a shot well under 200 yards, but if you like long distance shooting, we can accommodate you as well. Calibers must be .243 and above. Most of our hunters use 30-06, .270, 7MM, and 300 Mags. We recommend a bullet weight of 130 to 160 grains.

Thanks to the North Carolina Game Department, our turkey population has exploded over the last ten years, and boy has the hunting gotten good here.
