About Us Founded in 1981, Vanishing Texas River Cruises is a leading nature attraction in the state of Texas, providing a unique Hill Country experience to more than 500,000 passengers over the years. The cruise is operated and maintained by Captain Shawn Devaney, a decades-long Hill Country resident and an original founder and partner. The cruise originally came to life more than four decades ago thanks to Ed Low and Daniel Boren, both who have since passed away. Captain Shawn helped grow the cruise over the years into a premiere ecological experience in Texas and ultimately bought the business from Ed in 1999. Since then the VTRC family has grown, offering private charters around Lake Buchanan, as well as kayak and canoe rentals. We also offer sunset cruises between Memorial Day and Labor Day — a perfect way to end a hazy Hill Country day. With Captain Shawn at the helm and deckhand Tim Mohan offering voice-guided tours, you’ll be in good hands during any one of our numerous cruises.

WELCOME TO INNER SPACE CAVERN! Hidden for over 10,000 years, Inner Space Cavern is one of the best-preserved caves in Texas. It was discovered by a Texas Highway Department core drilling team in the spring of 1963 and was opened to the public in the summer of 1966. Since that time, hundreds of thousands of visitors have seen this beautiful cave. Our amazing cave has beautiful formations, large rooms, prehistoric animal bones, and a truly unique discovery story. It remains a constant 72 degrees (but feels like 80 degrees with the humidity) year round and it does NOT flood during rains.

Prepare yourself to capture the majestic beauty of our unique Texas Hill Country nature preserve through your camera lens will leave you breathless! Our photography tours take visitors along a 15 minute walk from an arid savanna through a limestone crevice down a 100 foot staircase into a sheltered canyon of lush plant life. At the head of the canyon stands a stunning 40-foot waterfall replenishing the emerald pool below! Guests will have a little over an hour to photograph and absorb the beauty of the grotto area without feeling crowded or rushed. Your guide will point out different angles that you can capture in front of and behind the waterfall, and inside of our 1-chamber room cave. After about a hour your guide will give you a 15 minute warning to get any last photographs before hiking back up to the visitor center, an approximate 15 minute walk. Participants will also have free access to Uplands after their guided photography grotto tour.

The nonprofit ClimateAdventures.org offers unique adventures with a climate science specialist to visit climate change impacted areas across North America and Greenland. These offerings are unparalleled in the tourism industry. Our principal resource accompanies all trips and provides a constant flow of detailed information about climate science related to the focus area of each trip and relevant to the climate change discussion from a science and policy perspective. Melton is also a leader in the reporting of findings in the new field of global warming psychology. This new discipline looks at why it is that we have had such a difficult time with communicating climate science when other sciences are much more easily understood.
