Ocean Drive, hugging Maine's rugged granite coastline, presents five miles of panoramic locations. From Sand Beach, we start the workshop by incorporating interesting foregrounds into the scene. Then we stop at many iconic sites including Monument Cove and Otter Cliffs. These ocean views allow us to discuss the 'rule of thirds' and use the surf/waves as leading lines in your photography. We continually make suggestions by reviewing and critiquing your images, helping to improve your photographic techniques of exposure and composition. This workshop starts at twilight, learning techniques of low-light photography. We will cover camera settings and the pros and cons of long exposure. Downeast Maine has some of the darkest night skies on the east coast, the perfect conditions for capturing the Milky Way. After taking to the streets of Bar Harbor, we will enter Acadia National Park, shoot the night skies and learn how to incorporate light-painting into your night photography. After this workshop you'll be able shoot after dark, expanding your photographic opportunities.

Everyone is excited to pull a few lobster traps. We will haul, bait, and explain how the traps work, and discuss the biology of lobsters. Learn how lobstermen are protecting this thriving industry while harvesting 120 million pounds of lobster annually. At $4 per pound that is nearly half a billion dollars fueling the coastal Maine communities. Most lobsters migrate closer or further from shore depending on the seasons. They may move up to 5 or 6 miles in a year, going closer to shore in warm weather, and offshore for stable, deeper water in late fall. In May the abundance of Lobsters close to shore is still low. Heading east we will look for a breeding pair of bald eagles. East Bunker Ledge is a favorite spot for watching seals as they swim, fish and sunbathe on the rocks. We'll cruise home past the Cranberry Islands, where a 200-year old fishing village continues to thrive by the ways of the sea.

From the summit you can see spectacular views of Bar Harbor and the surrounding islands. Visit all of the famous sites, including Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs, Precipice Cliffs, Sieur de Monts Springs and gardens. As you wind through the park you will see hand-cut stone bridges, rocky coves and pink granite coastline, glacier cut lakes and dense forests. You will also see the famous Asticou Gardens and the only fjord on the east coast, Somes Sound. Discover the towns of Seal and Northeast Harbor. View the gorgeous lawns and mansions of the "summer people".
