Bar Harbor, a quiet sea-side town, lights up at night offering an eclectic diversity of illuminated subjects to photograph; your imagination is the only limitation. This workshop starts at twilight, learning techniques of low-light photography. We will cover camera settings and the pros and cons of long exposure. Downeast Maine has some of the darkest night skies on the east coast, the perfect conditions for capturing the Milky Way. After taking to the streets of Bar Harbor, we will enter Acadia National Park, shoot the night skies and learn how to incorporate light-painting into your night photography. After this workshop you'll be able shoot after dark, expanding your photographic opportunities.

We are the new concessioner for the 2024 season. We will be open from Saturday May 25th through Wednesday October 16th, 2024 providing carriage tours, stall rentals and equestrian camping. All of our carriage tours depart from Wildwood Stables, just off the Park Loop Road. The Island Explorer Bus (4 Loop Road) stops at Wildwood. While we don’t offer horseback riding, we would be more than happy to get you and your family on a carriage tour.

Everyone is excited to pull a few lobster traps. We will haul, bait, and explain how the traps work, and discuss the biology of lobsters. Learn how lobstermen are protecting this thriving industry while harvesting 120 million pounds of lobster annually. At $4 per pound that is nearly half a billion dollars fueling the coastal Maine communities. Most lobsters migrate closer or further from shore depending on the seasons. They may move up to 5 or 6 miles in a year, going closer to shore in warm weather, and offshore for stable, deeper water in late fall. In May the abundance of Lobsters close to shore is still low. Heading east we will look for a breeding pair of bald eagles. East Bunker Ledge is a favorite spot for watching seals as they swim, fish and sunbathe on the rocks. We'll cruise home past the Cranberry Islands, where a 200-year old fishing village continues to thrive by the ways of the sea.
